Single Tooth Implants

Making bridgework obsolete.

Are you missing a tooth and want to have it replaced? Are you faced with the loss of a front tooth because of an athletic injury? Did you have a back tooth pulled because of an abscess, and now can’t chew as well as you once did?

If so, an implant might be what you need.

As the name implies, Single-Tooth Implants are used to replace a single…or just one…missing tooth, that has been lost due to decay, abscess or infection, or gum disease. Most of the dental implants used today are Single-Tooth. Once an implant is placed, it’s like having your real tooth.

Not long ago a bridge would have been used if a patient needed to have a tooth replaced. Bridges require having the neighboring teeth “ground down,” or prepared for caps, on either side of the missing tooth, and attaching a false tooth to the caps on the teeth that “anchor” or hold down the bridge. This makes two teeth do the work of three, puts excess stress on the anchor teeth, and puts the patient at risk of nerve damage or abscess. Bridges also have a short life span of 10-20 years.

An implant can replace the missing tooth without all the risk to the adjacent teeth. Implants can also last for over 50 years, and avoid having perfectly good teeth ground down for the bridge to attach.
